YEŞİL ÇATI
Yeşil Çatı, planned to be continued as long as Yeşil Holding exists and aimed to become Turkey’s largest social responsibility project, was launched in June 2012. Open to all of Turkey, Yeşil Çatı will gradually grow into a social responsibility initiative. The project, which will expand together with the institutions it supports, the institutions supporting it, and volunteer individuals, will leave its mark among social responsibility projects.
Starting as a social responsibility project addressing the essential need for shelter, the Yeşil Çatı project—designed to draw attention to this issue—will initially provide homes to widows with orphaned children, martyr families, and subsequently to other those in need.
In the Yeşil Çatı project, to which a certain portion of Yeşil Holding’s revenues will be allocated, public-private sector cooperation will be paramount. Under this project, Yeşil will construct housing free of charge on lands provided by governorships, municipalities, other public institutions, and philanthropic citizens. The key aspect of the project is that, with the support of public institutions, corporate companies, and philanthropists, it will grow to become one of Turkey’s largest social responsibility initiatives.
Structures to be built using the patented system developed by Turkish engineers at Renco Kompozit Ürünleri, one of Yeşil Holding’s affiliates, can be constructed very quickly. These special structures, dubbed “lego houses” in the media, are designed to be disaster and earthquake resistant with a lifespan of 100 years, providing those in need the opportunity to live in a proper home. In addition to building homes for those in need, Yeşil Holding will implement other necessary facilities such as health clinics, schools, and soup kitchens through the Yeşil Çatı project.
The first project of Yeşil Çatı was built in Van
Following the devastating earthquake, the permanent housing, toilet buildings, and prayer room constructed in Van by Engin Yeşil and handed over to those in need by the governorship served as the beginning and a fine example of the Yeşil Çatı project.
The second project in İskenderun...
The Yeşil Çatı project, which will continue without slowing down, will now provide housing to those in need in the İskenderun region. The project will be carried out in collaboration with the İskenderun Municipality. The philanthropic Nuri Uysen, who will purchase the land for the project from the İskenderun Municipality, will donate the land for the Yeşil Çatı project. With a 100-unit housing project built free of charge by Yeşil Çatı on the designated land, homes will be delivered to veteran and martyr families.
With the goal of making those in need homeowners, Yeşil Çatı will continue to provide assistance from various sources. Based on predetermined sales figures each year, it will give free shoes to those in need. Moreover, through channels such as associations, foundations, and public institutions, Yeşil Çatı will particularly supply shoes to children and students.
In addition to all this, Yeşil Çatı, which will also support certain aid projects and other potential social responsibility initiatives, will become a platform that brings together Yeşil Holding’s social responsibility efforts.
By introducing all of Turkey to this meaningful project, Yeşil Çatı will unite public institutions, the private sector, and all willing philanthropists to bring a major social responsibility project to life.
